Strathfieldsaye, Victoria

Strathfieldsaye is a suburb of the city of Greater Bendigo in Victoria, Australia. It takes its name from Stratfield Saye House, which was awarded to the Duke of Wellington following his defeat of Napoleon.
In the 2011 census, Strathfieldsaye had a population of 4,648. A Strathfieldsaye Post Office opened on 1 January 1864 and a Strathfieldsaye North office on 8 December 1876. In 1877 Strathfieldsaye was renamed Emu Creek, and Strathfieldsaye North became Strathfieldsaye
A railway connected Strathfieldsaye with Bendigo between 1888 and 1958.〔''The Heathcote Junction to Bendigo and Associated Railways'' Turton, Keith Australian Railway Historical Society Bulletin, April, 1970 pp69-88〕
Strathfieldsaye is one of Bendigo's outer-lying suburbs. Strathfieldsaye and its neighbouring suburbs are among some of the wealthier in Bendigo, but also more expensive to live.
2006 saw the commencement of a new sporting complex built in Strathfieldsaye which consists netball courts, football ovals, cricket nets, cricket pitches & a functions room. This sporting complex is now the home ground of the Strathfieldsaye Storm an Australian rules football team that plays within the Bendigo Football League. Competing in its fourth season, 2012 saw the Strath Storm compete in its final senior finals campaign in the Bendigo Football Netball League, with its Reserves side losing narrowly in the Grand Final to Sandhurst by 8 points.
